A bit about my background and hobbies
Hi, I’m Romina Mazooji. I’m of English and Iranian descent, born in Tehran, and have lived in the US since I was five—moving to SF as an adult. I’ve always been curious about the “why” behind people’s behavior, habits, and frustrations. As a child, I often had a sketchpad in hand, using freehand drawing as a way to decompress.
Why Service Design
I’m passionate about leveraging technology through HCD methodologies to connect people, places, and things. While aesthetics matter, design is much more—it’s a research-driven process that shapes lives. Great design starts with understanding users, their challenges, and how they navigate the world. By deeply caring about their needs, we create impactful products and services that truly make a difference.
My Work background
Since 2018, I've been learning from users and leveraging diverse research methods to uncover key insights. As a Senior Service Designer at Golden 1 Credit Union, I enhance member experiences through journey mapping, operational data analysis, qualitative interviews, and surveys. Previously, I was Lead Researcher at Bakkt, where I built their research process from the ground up, and at Bank of the West I conducted monthly research projects, including benchmarking and usability studies.
My background spans finance, public health, and cognitive science, giving me a unique perspective in design. With experience in both corporate and startup environments—including roles at Cell-EdUbiquity, and as an Honors Program Research and Design Fellow Fung Fellowship for Wellness & Technologies —I deeply empathize with users and strive to design solutions that truly improve their lives.
